Venus enters Libra, August 6, 2010

by Lauren Coleman, astrologybylauren

Venus crawls out of Virgo Friday evening, and after putting everything and everyone else before her own needs for the past several weeks, she rises up from her knees, carefully brushing herself off, and gracefully glides into her own domain of Libra.  Well, maybe not as gracefully as she would like.  She’s going to have to do some maneuvering around all those other characters in the cardinal signs, lined up to meet her as she waltzes her merry way home.

Saturn has been in Libra for the past few weeks, both testing and leveling the playing field.  Secret: Saturn really likes Venus, and is looking forward to her visit.  When Venus meets Saturn there is a certain sobriety and stark reality that can mess up some less stable relationships based on whimsy and dreams.  But when you are willing to see or be seen in harsh unflattering lights, with no makeup on, first thing in the morning, and you’re feeling surprisingly comfortable with this…. when you put up with people’s pet peeves, no matter how odd, and realize that you really are in this for the long haul.. that you are committed… that’s Venus with Saturn.  True commitment, through thick and thin, devoid of the rose colored glasses.  Venus meeting Saturn in Libra is seeing people for who and what they are, warts and all, wrinkles and all, all in all, without any romantic illusions, and still wanting to stay with them…

The problem are all the other planets: flighty, inconstant, unreliable Uranus, acting like the tasmanian devil; Jupiter wanting to do his own thing, when he wants to do it, whether you want to come along or not, and if you don’t then it’s your loss; Pluto pulling out the whips and chains at the most inappropriate moments, that’s if he allows you to have a moment; and then Mars…. well, lascivious Mars might be up for some passionate romance later on, that’s the least he can hope for while he’s stuck in languid Libra’s domain.  Sounds pretty kinky.  But most likely it’s going to lead to a lot of hurt feelings over the next several days, as people’s expectations of each other seem to be running at cross purposes.

As Venus gracefully pirhouettes around all these obstacles, so are we… and with each one, we’ll be asking all the while is this really worth it?  Or…. what are my expectations of the people in my life, or theirs of me?  And if this is really worth it, then how do I/we make it work?  How can we put this all together, and still make sense out of it?  Believe me, it’s not going to be easy…

Aries

After the road blocks, and the sense of lethargy and frustration Aries has been feeling over the past week, Venus’ entrance into Libra is something of a welcome respite.  People seem to be less negative, and more willing to cooperate… perhaps new, better alliances can be made.  Sometimes some relationships need to end in order to find the people who are best suited for your needs, and are willing to respect your recent yen for freedom and experimentation.  This is a time for separating the wheat from the chaff and seeing who will really stick by you, through thick and thin.

Taurus

Taurus and Libra are both ruled by Venus, and you may stop there at commonality of perception.  Yet there are things that both these signs appreciate: beauty, love, affection, chocolate, the arts, and serenity.  However, you can have too much of a good thing (think strawberry Haagen Daz ice cream, fried twinkies and pork fat), which has its own inevitable and undermining consequences.  On the positive side, if you can make it through the disruptions, and mayhem of the weekend, things will be more pleasant at work over the next several weeks.

Gemini

Things have been so serious of late, Venus’ entrance into Libra is like an invitation to a party… time to at last stretch out and relax a bit, let your hair down… There may be the temptation to do a lampshade-hat-wearing dance thingy, which you will regret later on when the videos come out… however this may be your big debut.  Nobody knew you had so much grace and discipline while doing the can-can.  Multi-talented Gemini never ceases to amaze us.

Cancer

Cancer is still trying to recover from the previous week.  It’s as if there is no where to hide.  What you need now is a big dose of tea and sympathy.  Luckily, those closest to you are more willing to take the time to notice that you need some hugs and affection, when they’re not pushing your buttons.  You’ve been feeling rather stressed, maybe it’s time to return to your roots, and rummage through the closets.. looking for those old, really comfortable jeans.  That’s what you need now, comfortable jeans.  Really old ones.  Then if you really need to, you can go out apartment hunting again.  Just make sure, that if you have to move, that it’s some place you could really live with.  And if you’re not moving, and just renovating, make sure that you pick out the right colors!

Leo

This is your time to shine Leo.  The New Moon in Leo on Monday is time for you to make positive affirmations for your future.  Repeat after me: “I am lovable”; “I have joy”; and “All blocks to my creative self-expression and happiness are going to be dispelled.”  There you have it.  Any problems that you may have been having trying to communicate, can be eased now.  It’s just a matter of understanding where each other is coming from in order for you both to see eye to eye.  Look for points of agreement instead of focussing on the differences.  You’ll find that you’ll be able to ease over disagreements with even the most cantankerous individuals, with just the right amount of honey.

Virgo

If you’ve been thinking about making some sort of financial commitment, Venus may just ease the way.  Up until now, it’s been very difficult being able to make an agreement.  People have been very unpredictable and undependable.  It’s hard to tell exactly where they are coming from.  It still isn’t.  But you’re feeling more willing to make a commitment.  And you’re beginning to understand what sort of commitment you are able to or want to make.  It’s a matter of weighing in on all the consequences, and thinking twice about selling your first born child.  There seems to be a lot at stake here.

Libra

Venus will be like a breath of fresh air in your sign.  She won’t totally dispel all the demons, but she could make them all a little more pleasant.  Sometimes it’s best not to try and understand everything.  Sometimes it’s enough just to accept things and people just the way they are.  One really nice thing about having Venus in your own sign with Saturn, is that it combines creative self-expression with self-discipline, and Mars just adds a little passion.  The situation at home or in the family (we know who that is) may be a little distracting to say the least.. maybe even overpowering and controlling, but it cannot take away from those moments of poetic lucidity, in which you notice things that you never would before.

Scorpio

If I had my life to live over, I would perhaps have more actual troubles but I’d have fewer imaginary ones.  ~Don Herold

Lately you’ve been feeling a little overlooked… aggravated, maybe a little irritable.  Feeling blocked, unable to fully express yourself… you realize how you undermine yourself with your own reactions, whether it’s to lash out unconsciously or to run and hide and think of ways of getting some kind of revenge… even if you don’t actually do it, you’re thinking about it, and you’ve been feeling testy.  What this time is good for is holing up, doing research, and hashing out all your plans.  You may not have been able to get what you want recently, but you will in due time… for things are going to be a lot more active in September, when your ruler, Mars enters your sign.  In the mean time, instead of anticipating… simply enjoy those moments of serenity while you can still have them… they’ll be in short supply in the future.

Sagittarius

Sometimes it takes a crisis to truly appreciate what you have.  Why does it seem that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence?  The truth is, there are just as many cow paddies on the other side as there are on this one.  And that reality is finally beginning to set in.  It’s been hard to make a commitment… you haven’t been really sure where people are coming from.  But now it seems that you are attracting the right kind of people who share the same sort of aims or purposes, or who, at least, support you in your hopes and wishes.  Combining your old life with your new life in a social situation, could prove to be rather interesting… to say the least.

Capricorn

Okay Capricorn… trying to make an impression has been rather difficult of late.  It feels like you’re having to climb a pretty steep mountain without any sort of harness or safety net.  You just haven’t been in the mood to be charming.  However, suddenly it seems that it takes less effort.  It’s not that your heart has grown 10 sizes all of a sudden, but that other people don’t seem to be quite so critical and daunting.  It may be that you can save your reputation after all.  Now is your chance to make a good impression, and make your presence known in the community… let everyone know that Capricorn’s can be nice too, even when their emotional foundation feels like it’s built on quicksand.

Aquarius

More willing and open to new ideas, spontaneous decisions… well… maybe, maybe not.  Aquarius is still a fixed sign, and you’re not likely to leap out into the unknown without a parachute.  However, if relationships have been rather scarce lately, this is your month to make positive affirmations concerning these.  Especially with Venus so auspiciously placed in relation to you.  It may be that old friends from far away will be seeking you out, and you may consider a brief rendezvous in Paris, if you could possibly get away… but don’t expect it to be all romance and flowers, no matter how hard you try.  This is a reality check as well as a test of faith.

Pisces

May be considering to ask for a loan, or think in terms of making a grand purchase.  Whatever it is, is going to be a pretty long term commitment, and so should be seriously considered before signing on the dotted line.  There may be more road blocks and bumps in the road than you had anticipated, but if you are willing to compromise, and settle for what you can afford, as opposed to what you would really want, you just might be able to find what you are looking for.  But it requires taking off the rose colored glasses and looking at what is available with a great deal of clarity as well as acceptance.  On another note, compelling passions seem to bring on a whole new sort of commitment.
